 Do you love the great outdoors?  Are you a hunter or a camping nut?  Does it show in your home?  You know what I mean, is it on every wall, every piece of furniture?  Do your plates have ducks on them?  If you are like most wildlife lovers you surround yourself with wildlife plates, photos and everything else you can.  Can you do to much, that's the question…

Wildlife Home Decor Can Be Overwhelming 

Wildlife home decor is a style which is used when the man, or woman, of the house is a big hunter. There are hunters and then there are big hunters. The big hunters generally stuff and mount the animals they shoot and hang or show them in their homes. There can be deer heads, birds, sheep and mountain lions stuffed and waiting in a hunter’s living room to greet you. 

Use Animals Sparingly

It is a very good idea to use an Interior Designer when trying to achieve a wildlife home decor look. Walking into a home full of stuffed wild animals can be very startling and frightening. Imagine being a house guest and getting up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water and running into a stuffed tiger in the family room. It might be the last time you spend the night at that house.

A wildlife home decor starts with a plan. Use only the animals that are absolutely necessary in the main part of the house and then have the hunter make or build a special room to house the rest of his animals. If it’s a hunting lodge wildlife home decor you are looking for then wood floors is a good starting point. Occasional animal skin rugs on these wooden floors are all that is needed to cover the wood floors. Use large leather furniture, with several ottomans and heavy wooden coffee tables and occasional tables. A large screen TV and state of the art entertainment center is a must.

A leather and wood bar is another great idea with comfortable bar stools. After all of these things are placed in the room start mounting the trophy heads. If you have the space, you may place full bodied animals in the room. If it becomes too crowded, it can give a menacing look. A pool table will be much more appreciated, even though most men will never admit it. Never place an animal trophy in a bathroom, unless the bathroom is used strictly by men. Wildlife wallpaper and artwork is a much better idea for a wildlife home decor bathroom. A wildlife home decor master bedroom should be very rustic.

A large wooden four poster bed with quilts and pillows is always a hit. One or two animal heads will suffice in a bedroom. Antique furniture can finish the room with an Indian print window treatment. Hopefully, the master bedroom window will open onto a sweeping few of mountains, a lake or countryside. If you are a hunter and would like to have wildlife home decor, it can be done, but we wise and smart and hire a designer to give you the look.

If you are completely happy with your decorating abilities and think all your wild life is fine…then by all means keep it, it's your house after all.  The most important thing is that you are happy and comfortable with your rooms, from the bedroom to the bathroom.
